FATBOY – Are We On For CHOGM?
Billions of shillings spent on organising the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Uganda, yet:
- There was no medicine in the national referral hospital
- The roads were shit
- The schools were shit
- Everything was shit
And guess what? NOTHING HAS CHANGED SINCE.
Someone had to do a song about it at the time, right? Who else, but FATBOY!!!!!
Download: Fatboy – Are We On For CHOGM (3.94MB)
(This song is a satire about the ridiculousness of the government blowing money on useless things yet there is so much else to do with the meagre resources this country has)
Lyrics..
Intro
Young boy: Hey fatboy!
Fatboy: Yo, what’s up?
Young boy: Its 2007 the year of the CHOGM. Are we ready or what?
Verse 1
It’s 2007 and the country is excited
With everything happening you can see this town is united
Now you can see everybody’s trying to keep Kampala clean
But what does CHOGM mean?
5,000 delegates are going to be flying into this town
For 2 weeks they’ll be around for this big thing going down
Its a big conference for the people of the Commonwealth
The Queen is coming to town
Bridge
They said that they would fix the potholes
They said the roads would be so smooth
Just look around, you’ll see that, they didn’t mean that
I wonder if we will be on time!
Chorus
So are we on for CHOGM?
(Yes, as you can see)
Are we still on for CHOGM?
(Maybe we should all just pray)
So are we on for CHOGM?
(You better believe)
Are we still on for CHOGM?
Oooh uhuh…. it’s okay
Verse 2
All the money they’ve spent trying to make Kampala look like Chicago
Yet they can’t pay doctors, and there’s no medicine in Mulago
Why can’t somebody tell them how they should spend all this money
Do we know our priorities?
They told the kids of Shimoni “Sorry, you guys gotta go..”
“See, we’re selling your school but meanwhile you can go to East Kololo..”
“Some guys have bought thins land coz they want to build a hotel..”
“So bye bye – we wish you well!”
Bridge
And up to now the place is empty
There’s no hotel and there’s no school
Well its absurd but it seems that, you if try and think back
Was what they did with it really cool?
Chorus
So are we on for CHOGM?
(Yes, as you can see)
Are we still on for CHOGM?
(Maybe we should all just pray)
So are we on for CHOGM?
(You better believe)
Are we still on for CHOGM?
Oooh uhuh…. it’s okay
Verse 3
Let’s make the most of the conference underway
The whole world will say that Uganda is okay
We’ll get so many tourists who saw Uganda on TV
They’ll see that even us we can also host the Queen
Be good.. be nice… and remember to always smile, baby
Let the delegates see that Uganda is really worth their while, baby
So my people don’t say that CHOGM has nothing to do with you
Its your country so just do what you have to do
Bridge
I know they said they’ll fix the fix the potholes
They said the roads would be so smooth
And things are not so perfect, but we should respect
What they’ve been able to do
Chorus
So are we on for CHOGM?
(Yes, as you can see)
Are we still on for CHOGM?
(Maybe we should all just pray)
So are we on for CHOGM?
(You better believe)
Are we still on for CHOGM?
Oooh uhuh…. it’s okay
Young boy: Uhuh, so?
End

OMG ….. i love dat.

Now we need more spot on songs like this one!!!!!! I really love this one,FatBoy you are the guy! This one beats the “President’s so called Campaign hit song”.There are some few reservations about it; Kayihura’s ears sniffing the track and next you are no longer part of the Awesome 3some! The other is that you are lyrically gifted so please take on some of these so called Song writers and put some more better work out here! We are still waiting for more PODCASTS……………………………..
